Haas looking for two-year driver offers in 2021

Haas looking for two-year driver deals in 2021

Haas postponed the decision on his future driver line-up until he signed the Concorde deal and committed to racing next year. The final negotiations were concluded last month.

Team boss Steiner said last month there is no rush to make a decision for next year as he weighs the future of Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen.

When Steiner spoke in Monza on Friday, he reiterated that talks about Haas’ line-up for 2021 had not yet started and that he would speak to team owner Gene Haas in the near future.

However, Steiner announced that he would like to ensure the same driver race for Haas for the next two years to make it easier to adapt to the new vehicle regulations for 2022.

“Everything is on the table for next year, because the only thing I want and will discuss with Gene over the next few weeks and months is how we can do our best,” said Steiner at Sky Sports F1.

“Then we’ll see what suits us best.

“But in my opinion we have to do one thing: if you sit in the car in ’21, you should be in the car in ’22.

“If you know the driver of a new car, you have at least taken care of something. Whoever it is, even if these guys are [racing] now and they stay, they should stay for at least the next two years.

“I’m against swapping with a new car and driver before ’22, that could be difficult. That’s the only thing I can say, the rest is open. I still have no idea who will drive a car in years 21 and 22. “

Haas has two of the few remaining seats in the driver market for next year when both Magnussen and Grosjean run out of contracts.

Magnussen and Grosjean have raced as teammates since the 2017 season, while Grosjean has been with Haas since his debut in 2016.
