Haas is ready to stay in F1

Haas is ready to stay in F1

Haas is ready to sign the Concorde agreement by tomorrow and will therefore extend its partnership with Ferrari, said team boss Günther Steiner.

Formula 1 has given teams until August 12th to sign the new trade agreements linking teams F1 and FIA. The current Concorde expires at the end of this season. So opting for the new one suggests Haas will stick with the sport after uncertainty about the future, and Steiner expects to sign up after a final talk with team owner Gene Haas.

“As ready as you can be (to sign),” Steiner said. “Of course I’ll have to go through Gene again. I’ve spoken to Gene beforehand and I’ll call him in the next two days and talk about it again, but for now all signs are that we’re ready to sign.

“I just want to go through it the way you normally do with the board and the owner. You declare again that everything is understood and everything has been agreed. But there is no tendency that we will not subscribe to. “

Steiner said that with the signing of the new Concorde deal, Haas will also expect to extend its technical partnership with Ferrari, having worked closely with the Italian designer since joining F1 in 2016.

“At this point it would be almost impossible for us and our resources to switch to a new supplier. When we sign the contract with FOM, we will expand our cooperation and supply with Ferrari,” he said.

Haas isn’t updating its car this year, the team is looking to stabilize financially in the face of the impact of COVID-19, and Steiner said the approach won’t change even if the team confirms its immediate future in the sport.

“We’re trying to get the most out of what we have, nothing else,” he said. “If we get through, better days will be ahead. But this season is going to be a challenge, I said that from the start. It’s going to be a challenging season after what we’ve learned from the first two races in Austria. We’ll just keep working hard. “
