Haas team boss Günther Steiner has confirmed that Nikita Mazepin will receive a new chassis after the Formula 1 summer break after his complaints about driving a heavier car.
Mazepin expressed frustration after Sunday’s Styrian Grand Prix, claiming he had “a very heavy car” compared to teammate Mick Schumacher and described himself as a “carrot to catch” from other drivers.

Steiner has confirmed that Mazepin’s VF-21 is heavier, though not significantly.
“I don’t want to go into the specific weight difference,” said Steiner. “There is a small difference in weight depending on the weight distribution.
“Sometimes you can’t get the weight distribution when you have to put in some overweight ballast. Hard is never good. It’s not like it’s 20 pounds, not 10 pounds. It’s nothing like that. ”
Regarding Mazepin’s loss of time, Steiner added: “Of course, a heavier car never makes you faster. I said the obvious here!
“But how much, I don’t want to go into the exact amount. Sure, it brings something. Physics is physics, we can’t change it. It slows him down, but it’s not much.”
Mazepin further lamented the fact that the weight problem will not be cured until he is given a new chassis, which in his opinion would not apply for another “six, seven races”.
However, Steiner has announced that it will be much earlier and is proposing the Belgian Grand Prix that follows the summer break.
“The new chassis, the plan is not to have it in six or seven races,” said Steiner. “The plan is to be with us after the summer break.
“The chassis always has a tolerance, it’s a year old, you drove a year. You normally make a new one every year, and the chassis never gets lighter as the year goes on, as you know.
“The tolerance in it is just a little bit higher, but it’s not much.”
