Haas is making good progress with its 2022 car, which is being developed in Maranello, says team boss Günther Steiner.

Due to the new budget cap in Formula 1, Ferrari had to reassign some staff and the close collaboration that Haas enjoys resulted in some staff being seconded to the customer team, with Ferrari building a bespoke facility at its Maranello headquarters. Those who work for Haas don’t have access to Ferrari’s design office, but Steiner, who recently visited the new base, is happy with the work being done there ahead of the new regulations next year.

“Day-to-day business in our Maranello office is managed by Simone Resta,” says Steiner. “Of course we are always in contact, we always talk about things, not least because I know the past here and I want to pass on so much of this knowledge to him so that he knows how best to continue.

“In the short five months we have there, he has done a good job. Of course, I’m really looking forward to 2022. I can see that we’re making good progress. Hopefully the car will be competitive and we’ll have a lot of fun again in 2022. “

Steiner is also pleased with the progress of his driver pairing this year as both Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin gain experience and see the upcoming triple races in France and Austria as another test for the two.

“I think any challenge is good for her,” he added. “You are exposed to things that just happen in Formula One. It’s a triple header, you can’t change it, you have to deal with it. Sometimes it’s good because there’s no time for distractions between races. You are both young, have a lot of energy and want to do racing.

“For me, it’s not a bad thing for her. You just have to stay focused and we’ll see how much you can do that. I think it’s good for them to be under this pressure in the first part of their career, not just the season. I am sure you will get along very well with it. “
