In 2022, Haas will begin to regain the level of competitiveness that brought it back to fifth place in the constructors’ championship in 2018, according to team principal Günther Steiner.
After a bad end to 2019, 2020 was a difficult season for Haas, who decided not to develop their car due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year it has taken a similar approach, focusing on giving two rookie drivers experience, rather than having to hard develop a car before the new technical regulations that will hit in 2022, both Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin that far are far from scoring points, Steiner believes the team can get back on their feet next year.

“I think we are well positioned,” said Steiner. “You’re never in a comfortable position, you always want more, because on the day you no longer want, I think you should change (your) job, especially in the competitive environment of Formula 1. I think we’re on a good place, (but) we can always do better.
“The team is now back to where we were in ’16. ’17, ’18 in technical terms, with Simone Resta leading the technical group. We have a front runner there again and I see good progress there.
“The racing team has always been pretty good, we never saw any major weaknesses. So I’m pretty hopeful and confident that we will return to our old form. “
Steiner believes that because of this ambition and expectation of a more competitive team, Haas has attracted new sponsors when new regulations are introduced next year.
“I am very grateful to you for believing in our plan,” he said. “Our plan is not to stay where we are. We have explained our strategy and there are people who like to take on a challenge.
“If you see some of our partners, they are relatively new companies who believe we can do better. They want to get in at the beginning of something good and that’s why they joined. But it is also not easy for the teams at the top to find sponsors, so every sponsor you find is always good to have. And that people believe in our future is also good, because that’s the only thing we can describe to them.
“We have a bright future ahead of us, we have two young drivers and we finished fifth in 2018 and we want to do that again. This is how we get these sponsors. “
