Haas introduces new additions to the 2021 F1 car

Haas unveils new additions for 2021 F1 car

As the last team to officially unveil their car and take off the cover of the VF-21 in the pit lane before it ran in the Bahrain test on Friday, the car has a significant amount of carryover.

Team boss Gunther Steiner announced that the team had not issued any of their tokens on their 2021 car, noting that the season was a year of transition for the American team.

The floor has a rib along the back of the floor that extrudes forward and acts as a mount for a winglet in front of the rear wheel.

This is accompanied by a curl in the back corner of the floor, as used by a number of teams in interpreting the new floor codes.

With the slots closed now banned by the changes in regulations to lessen the force of the floor and reduce overall downforce, the teams had to use other methods to reproduce the same effects to keep the airflow in the sub-floor as clean as possible possible to keep.

Mercedes, for example, has unveiled its own floor layout, where the design was kept under lock and key when it was first introduced. It has a complex set of fins and winglets to make up for the missing slots.

The Haas additions appear to be an attempt to develop a vortex that can lodge around the rear wheel and seal the diffuser to ensure that less amount of turbulence created by the wheel gets into the diffuser chamber.

The team also introduced a new T-wing with a more square shape. The team ran through 2020 with two designs, with a single element wing run in the medium speed locations and a more rounded double wing arrangement like Abu Dhabi and Hungary.

Grinding the two elements together limits the formation of apical vertebrae – although teams often added two ribs to the outer edges of the bottom to place those vertebrae lower down.

There are few other changes to the Auto Haas 2021, so the design is firmly rooted in the design that has its lowest score since entering F1 in 2016 – with just three points for the entire season.

Mick Schumacher was the first to drive the VF-21 car in formal tests when Nikita Mazepin took on shakedown duties in Bahrain on Thursday.
