Haas first discovered Schumacher’s F1 seating problems from his mother

Haas only discovered Schumacher

Before the Styrian Grand Prix, Schumacher revealed that his Formula 1 debut was slightly offset this season.

The situation was revealed after Schumacher was filmed in deep conversation with Sebastian Vettel as they inspected his Haas seat after the French Grand Prix.

The problem isn’t serious enough to affect his driving style and Schumacher has encountered it in his junior career as well.

However, Steiner says he wasn’t aware there was a problem with the seat until the issue was raised in a conversation with Corinna Schumacher at Paul Ricard.

On this subject, Steiner said: “It was actually his mother who told me for the first time in France that something was wrong with the seat.

“I said, ‘I’m not aware of this,’ but I think it’s another thing that has just escalated because I would say he wants to make a new seat. But he said himself that there was no urgency gives.”

Steiner said the team would be more than happy to get Schumacher a new seat to fix the issue and make sure his position is perfectly straight.

“I think he’s not exactly straight, which means there might be some pressure or something,” he said.

“But he’s not seated below 45 degrees, or his body isn’t completely twisted, or the car isn’t straight. So I think there is just a little … [an offset] because Sebastian looked into the car and then it turned into a big story that I’m okay with.

“But I wasn’t even aware of it until his mom told me about it, so it can’t be that bad. We’ll give him a seat as soon as he wants one and when he thinks we’re in the right position . “

Schumacher revealed that Vettel had also spoken to his mother about the sitting position – and cheekily advised him to take it apart so that he could get a new one.

Vettel said: “It would have been difficult to get a new one in a week, so don’t always follow the advice I give!”
