Mick Schumacher triggered a red flag when he spun in high-speed turn 22 at the start of the race.
After the restart, an unseen Nikita Mazepin ran in the back of George Russell as the Williams driver tried to dodge Sergio Perez, who had been turned around by contact with Charles Leclerc.
Mazepin’s chassis was irreparably damaged, so the spare part will be used for the Abu Dhabi GP next weekend. The Russian already had a chassis change at the Qatar GP after suffering a curb damage.
Steiner says the team has enough parts to start the last weekend of the season but cannot afford another serious accident.
“It’s better that the damage is done now than it was five races ago,” he told Motorsport.com. “We still have one race ahead of us, we have enough spare parts to rebuild the cars, but we won’t have enough spare parts if we have accidents in Abu Dhabi.

When asked to quantify the extent of the damage, he said: “Mick was three corners complete, transmission, base, side box. Its chassis is good, but Nikita’s chassis is gone.
