The Haas F1 team experienced a welcome surprise at the Turkish Grand Prix when Mick Schumacher was able to make the cut for Q2 under changing conditions. The German even had an outside shot to reach Q3 but couldn’t finish his lap in Q2.

The race was a different story, however, as Schumacher was thrown out of the way early by Fernando Alonso and eventually ended up in P19.

Over the Grand Prix weekend in Turkey, team boss Günther Steiner was delighted with the surprising Q2 performance and said:

“Yes, it was my personal greatest satisfaction to see how the team did. We are ready for the next year, you know. We are fine. Yes, we will make mistakes too, but there was a chance, and that was it.” work as [if] they’ve been working together for three or five years. “” I’m really looking forward to next year and of course the ‘Rookie’ label will be gone! ” # HaasF1“/>” I’m really looking forward to next year and of course the ‘Rookie’ label will be gone! “# HaasF1 https://t.co/YtLZbvblsU

Regarding Schumacher and the rest of the team, Steiner emphasized how impressed he was with the way they worked. He said:

“Mick was very calm, his race engineer did a great job and has always remained calm. Especially with Ayao [Komatsu] as a substitute for Nikita. work [Mazepin’s] Race engineer, so there wasn’t a chief race engineer there. And everyone did a good job, everyone did what they had to do, the mechanics. That made me happy because now we are ready. If we get a better car, the racing team will be ready to score a few points. “

Will Haas make the expected jump into midfield in 2022?

This question is difficult to answer as nobody knows what effects the rule changes of 2022 could have on the network. Will we see a field in a different order compared to 2021 or will the status quo be maintained with the usual suspects in their respective positions?

In the rest of the field, Haas seems to have a lead in development. What it also has is a unique focus on resources that will be allocated for the 2022 season. However, Haas lacks two critical areas: a mediocre track record in developing good midfield cars over the past few years, and a relatively inexperienced driver line-up. Continuing to have Nikita Mazepin as one of the drivers will also cause some controversy because of the Russian’s less appealing social profile.

Whether or not Haas will begin climbing the pecking order in 2022 remains to be seen, but first they need to regularly produce meaningful and consistent results.
