Haas F1 plans are taking shape for 2021 and beyond

With the aim of further strengthening and improving its overall performance, the Haas F1 team has been busy lately confirming plans for the 2021 Formula 1 season.

The American team that Gene Haas founded and ran recently embarked on a change of strategy and signed a new Concorde deal that guarantees they will remain part of elite motorsport through 2025.

This agreement includes younger drivers sitting in their cars in exchange for improved financial support, which is then reinvested in ongoing research and development to improve the overall performance of racing. This led to the announcement that Mick Schumacher is joining a completely new driver line-up for the FIA Formula 1 World Championship season in 2021.

The 21-year-old Schumacher had an excellent season in FIA Formula 2 and won the 2020 championship with the Italy-based Prema Racing team. Now he has the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of his famous father, the seven-time FIA Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher.

Schumacher senior still holds numerous Formula 1 records, including 77 fastest laps from 306 starts, most consecutive podiums with 19, most races with a single designer (Ferrari) with 181 entries and 179 starts and most consecutive championships with 5 won between 2005 and 2004.

Schumacher Senior’s record of a total of 7 F1 championships was only achieved in 2020 by Lewis Hamilton, with the British driver consistently dominant in the races and with the latest F1 odds on every track. Hamilton has also managed to surpass various other benchmarks of the legendary German, including the record for overall victories in Grand Prix races.

In view of his father’s extremely successful career, great hopes and expectations are inevitably placed on Schumacher junior in his debut season when he joins the motorsport elite. That said, the Haas F1 team wants to surround their new driver with the best possible support they can assemble, including leading experts in auto performance.

One of these experts is the recruitment of Simone Resta from Ferrari, who was head of chassis engineering. His wealth of experience goes back to when he joined the Scuderia team in 2001 and eventually became head of vehicle project coordination at Ferrari. After a brief stint as Technical Director at Sauber, Resta returned to Ferrari in 2018 to head the chassis department.

Of course, there are strong and well-established ties between Ferrari and Haas who, as Italian partners, already use the same engine and various other car components. This connection also extends to the recruitment of Mick Schumacher, who completed his motorsport apprenticeship as a Ferrari Academy driver.

With the 2021 F1 season set to begin on March 21st with the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Mick Schumacher. Likewise, the Haas F1 team will strive to improve its position in the Constructors’ Championship in the hope that its drivers can claim some podiums throughout the campaign.
