Haas’ chief race engineer said the attitude Mick Schumacher brings to the team motivates those around him as well as himself.
Ayao Komatsu added that the young German is always trying to get better race after race.
Although the team had problems all season, the Haas engineers and Schumacher work well together, according to Komatsu, which is of mutual benefit to the driver and team.
“I think Mick works really hard,” he said, quoted by Motorsport.com. “Whether he’s having a good or a bad weekend, he’s really self-critical, in a positive way.
“He’s always looking for areas where he can improve. When he talks about ‘okay, I got this wrong, I need to improve’ that doesn’t really depress him. It just gives him extra motivation. So he always looks at himself and other things that he can influence.
“He also works very hard with his engineers, and they are also motivated by Mick’s attitude. So it works in both directions. “

Team boss Günther Steiner said that Schumacher’s run into Q2 in Turkey helped give the team additional self-confidence as there were only a few positive results from the season.
And for Haas’ chief engineer, the progress that the rookie has made over the course of the season is continuous and ensures that everything about the race weekends – positive and negative – is properly discussed.
“He’s always learning and improving, and taking on new things every time,” said Komatsu. “There are a few weekends when he fell during free practice, which affected his qualifying performance and so on.
“Sometimes we sit down straight away, sometimes we talk about it a week later or at the next event, but we don’t leave anything unsaid or not looked at.
“And he works very closely with his engineers, and I also work closely with him on the philosophy, how to go about the weekend, what we did wrong and how to put certain things into action.” Positive or negative .
“We’re trying to put together more positive things for the coming weekends. So I can’t say exactly what weekend he took a step. I think he’s just constantly looking for improvements. “
