Günther Steiner firmly believes that Haas will more than survive this season, despite having decided to stop development of the VF-21.
Haas announced that the car would not be upgraded at all this season following the Covid Hit 2020 campaign that saw the team financially hit by the effects of the pandemic.

Nevertheless, Steiner insisted that he was not satisfied with survival, but that the team only realistically assessed their chances in the last season of the current regulations.
“I would say we do more than just survive,” said Steiner. “I see it as a year of transition.
“I think we survive – this is not a problem, we survive – but obviously we are focused on the next year.
“It wasn’t a big reason for us, from where we were last year, to make a big effort in 2021 as we know these regulations are coming to an end and we have to develop a completely new car for 2022.
“It wasn’t a real point for us. We accept that we have to take one step back in order to take two forward. This is our year – a year of transition, but we’re not holding back in 2022. ”
A number of changes will be introduced in Formula 1 next year, with radical aerodynamic regulations shaping the new vehicle class.
Steiner pointed out that the American team worked hard to get the sport off to a flying start.
“I wouldn’t call [this season] a hold pattern, “he added.” That means you stop everything, but we are the opposite. We’re actually developing pretty strongly in 2022.
“We are totally up and running and are doing everything we can to make hard progress in 2022. We just decided to go this way.”
