Haas boss Steiner no longer demands “hard” triple headers in Formula 1 | F1

F1 has just finished its first triple header of the season, starting in France before back-to-back races take place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

With a view to the rest of the season, three more triple headers are currently planned if there are no further cancellations.

After the summer break in August, Formula 1 will head to Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy in quick succession.

One week off, then it’s Russia, Turkey and Japan as the next triple header, although the Suzuka race could be canceled due to the worsening COVID situation in the country.

The United States, Mexico and Brazil are the final triple headers proposed, but due to Australia’s cancellation, F1 may decide to add another race in the Middle East to make it another triple header, just before Saudi Arabia and the final in Abu Dhabi.

After the Austrian Grand Prix, Steiner said, “I mean, I have to admit, I think you are looking forward to coming home after this now, as you can imagine.

“At the moment we’re still talking about COVID, the calendar is changing, so I wouldn’t say that there are reasons why this is so. But we have to try not to have triple headers. I think more doubles are better than a triple head, it’s better to have constant doubles than four triple heads in a season.

“With triple headers, some people are gone for a month before they come home and have done three races that month, which is also quite stressful. I’m sure the FOM will look into this, but right now it’s a COVID situation because one of those triple headers like this one was just thrown in because the calendar is a moving target. “

Steiner assumes that the Russia-Turkey-Japan run will be the most difficult given the different time zones and journeys.

“It’s getting tougher, this is going to be a lot harder because you also have the time zone changes and of course the jet lag that comes with that,” Steiner added. “Here on Monday or on the last Monday, that is now, everyone had a day off. I’ve given everyone the day off so they can do something here because it’s very good.

“But when you fly from one country to another, there is nothing. You spend your day off on an airplane. “
