Grosjean made his last Grand Prix start for Haas at last year’s Bahrain Grand Prix, where injuries sustained in a serious accident forced him out of the remaining two laps.
The Frenchman was supposed to leave Haas before his accident late last year but made his comeback in IndyCar tests on track with Dale Coyne Racing ahead of his first season in the series this year.
However, Grosjean will remain associated with Haas in 2021 after the F1 team announced on Wednesday that its F1 esports team will be operated by R8G Esports.
Grosjean entered the esports realm last year by starting his own team which now has 17 professional sim racers on their books participating in a number of competitions and platforms.
“I’m very excited to be managing Haas’ entry into the F1 Esports Pro Series through R8G Esports this year,” said Grosjean.
“I’ve been involved with esports for a year now and I think our team is doing very well. For me it’s a great story to help Haas F1 in this area and to race together.
“Of course it’s a cool sequel to what we built together. So I’m really looking forward to the first race and what we can build together in the esports competition. “
“I am delighted that we can use Romain’s enthusiasm for esports and the expertise of R8G Esports to monitor our further participation in the F1 Esports Pro Series,” said Haas team principal Gunther Steiner.
“For us it is an important step in relation to our commitment from the past seasons. We know we’re working with a group that really understands the needs of the eSports environment and can help take our program to the next level.
“We had some memorable points wins in the past F1 Esports Pro Series and we won the Virtual Grand Prix Series this season. It would be fantastic to keep that shape this season under the leadership of R8G Esports in the F1 Esports Pro Series. “
