The Uralkali Haas F1 Team was pleased to see that both rookie drivers finished the race under mixed conditions Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna at the Imola, Italy. The team has not yet opened an account this season and is at the end of the constructors’ championship.
Mick Schumacher lost his front wing when he warmed his tires behind the safety car in the slippery conditions. The German radio engineer showed the patience the team has to show as it leads its two young drivers in their first season. Schumacher was calmed down by the pit wall when he had to wait for the pit entrance to be reopened and a new front wing to be installed.
Nikita Mazepin stayed away from his usual mistakes to end the race. Schumacher was in sixteenth place and Mazepin in seventeenth place. This was the first race that Mazepin completed in Formula 1.
Guenther SteinerThe Haas F1 team principal, who dislikes being foolish, has been remarkably calm as he leads a team that leads the back of the field.
Steiner was happy with the drivers who finished the race and said: “We brought two cars home in a rather eventful race with changing weather conditions. There were a few things that got in our way again, but ultimately we recovered and finished the race with Nikita (Mazepin) and Mick (Schumacher) on checkered – which is good.
“That’s what I always want us to do the laps and for the guys to learn. I want them to keep improving and it was especially good for Nikita today that he finished the race after missing out in Bahrain.
“He’s had a full race now. Mick has recovered well from the earlier part of his race. As much as it is not the result that makes you happy, what makes you happy is that we’ve made progress. That was our plan, and if we can keep working like this – with fewer mistakes and better performance – we’ll be here this year. “
