Günther Steiner says the best way to keep the staff on the team from becoming disaffected was by bringing up Haas’ modus operandi.
Haas had a dismal 2021, qualifying and driving at the end of the line for the entire season, and her two rookie drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin stayed without opening their F1 points accounts.
Some members of the Haas staff decided they were doing better, and in an attempt to keep the most valuable staff, it was revealed that main sponsor Dmitry Mazepin, Nikita’s father, was planning to introduce a loyalty program to reward those who participated in the Team through thick and thin.
But when it comes to motivating the workforce, Haas team boss Steiner has repeatedly suppressed the message that there should be a significant improvement by 2022 because the entire development focus was placed on developing a car that would be significantly more competitive after the new regulations came into force will.
Therefore, the poor results in 2021 were only to be expected – and Steiner communicated this to employees in anticipation of better times.

When asked during a video on the team’s Twitter account asking how he motivates the team, Steiner said, “By just giving them the confidence [of] what is in the future and explain why we are where we are because I can explain it and I made it public. And if you can explain it, people will believe in you.
“Of course, some people aren’t patient enough to wait for the turnaround, but most are, so it’s a good thing. It doesn’t need to be a lot of talking, it’s just an understanding.
“Of course, sometimes they get a little dejected and then I talk to them and tell them ‘we’ll be back’.
“We had a great day in Abu Dhabi at the last race and I said, ‘Folks, you can still do it, it’s not like you’ve forgotten how to race, if we have a better car we’ll be back’.”
Steiner is sticking to the “cautiously optimistic” approach he has taken with regard to the team’s prospects for the next season.
“The goal is selection [up] Points next year, ”added Steiner. “I think we’re still there as a team, we can still do it. We had points last year, but for good reasons we haven’t had any this year.
“But I think the team is ready. Hopefully the car is strong. With the development everything is looking good at the moment.
“The only thing I don’t know, and I don’t think anyone knows, is how good the opposition is.
“But at the moment we are sometimes arguing with people with a two-year-old car. We didn’t get any points, but we’re fighting in the end and that gives me the feeling that we can do it next year. “
