George Russell is looking forward to the race at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve A track this weekend where he is excited about the race.
The Williams Racing Driver will try to put the disappointment of his high-speed accident with him Valtteri Bottas during the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna Two weeks ago behind him this weekend in Portugal when the Briton lost his chance for points after a collision with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team Driver towards Tamburello.
Russell says he loves the bumpy Portimão track and the attack on the track, and some of its blind corners in particular, give him a thrill from behind the wheel.
“I love Portimão because the track is very flowing and undulating,” said Russell. “You can also use the curve types to create very different lines because they are quite wide in the entries. There isn’t a specific line that you have to take to get around the corner in the fastest way.
“That really helps in the race because you can take a different line at almost every corner to get out of the dirty air. You come through some turns that are straight and blind and you can’t see what is 200 meters ahead of you, but I think that adds to the thrill of the track.
“It’s a fantastic place and I can’t wait to race there again.”
“This is a track that may not fit our car as well on paper as it does with Imola” – Nicholas Latifi
Teammate Nicholas latifi I’ll also try to put the disappointment of the Imola weekend behind, a weekend that promised so much but ended in the wall on lap one.
For the second time in his Formula 1 career, the Canadian made it into the second phase of qualifying, starting in fourteenth on the grid just to untangle his race on the first lap in the wet.
First, Latifi turned off at the Acque Minerali, but collided with it, although he was able to get going again Ulrakali Haas F1 Team‘s Nikita Mazepin upon re-entering the racetrack that threw him into the wall.
Latifi believes the Imola circuit is a better fit for the FW43B than the Portimão circuit this weekend. Even so, he is aiming for a strong weekend to support the pace he showed two weeks ago.
“Whenever you’ve had a bad race, it gives you more excitement and motivation for the next,” said Latifi. “It gives us the opportunity to go back and start over, which I want to do on the way to Portimão.
“This is a track that may not fit our car as well on paper as it does Imola, and it was quite a struggle in Portugal last year. However, I feel that we have improved the car in certain areas, which was evident in Imola. So I’m curious and optimistic to see how we’ll do fair this time around.
“Above all, I just hope for a clean race.”
