Rumors are circulating in the Formula 1 paddock that Gene Haas might try to sell his F1 team. If this is indeed the case, it won’t come as a surprise as the team has been on a downward spiral for the past six seasons. 2020 was their worst season in the sport to date, and this year it looked even bleak.
Team owner Haas could evaluate his prospects in the sport and possibly try to get out of the equation. At first glance, it would be a smart move as the team’s income-to-expense ratio isn’t all that positive.
Suppose Haas decides to sell his team. In this case, it is very likely that the chairman of the The team’s new sponsor, UralkaliCurrent driver Nikita Mazepin’s father, Dmitry Mazepin, could appear with him as a potential candidate to buy the team. And if the Tweet from @OnlyFruits It is believed that Mazepin could find a partner in William Storey – owner and CEO of Rich Energy, the energy drinks company that sponsored the Haas F1 team in 2019.

But would Gene Haas sell?
This is literally a million dollar question because Haas has a few things to consider before taking such a drastic step. When the team first entered the sport, they were relatively competitive in their first season and made a strong impression in midfield. But over the years the Haas F1 team fell into the abyss, challenging the Williams team for last place in 2020.
Gene Haas made no secret of the fact that he wants to be competitive and that if the team continues its dismal run, he will leave the sport. He almost kept that promise in 2020, but due to the proposed budget cap and multiple promises, he signed the latest Concorde deal that the Haas team will see in F1 by the end of the 2025 season.
However, Haas could still sell if the right offer or people come around. Enter Dmitry Mazepin – and Storey, if the rumors are true.

Mazepin was in the running to buy Force India in 2018 but lost to Lawrence Stroll, who renamed Team Racing Point (now Aston Martin). And while Mazepin was pretty upset about losing to Stroll, he’s always thought about the possibility of owning an F1 team – even when it comes to securing a racing seat for his son Nikita. Gene Haas knows that. And knowing that Dmitry wanted to own an F1 team, the American team owner could pack his bags and say goodbye to the sport.
Perhaps Haas will decide not to sell his team and wait until 2022 when the regulatory overhaul comes into play. But even that doesn’t guarantee the team will be competitive, and Gene Haas may not want to wait for it to happen.
