Simone Resta, previously Ferrari’s chief designer between 2014 and 2018, has headed the chassis development department at Scuderia since she returned to Ferrari after a short period as technical director for the Alfa Romeo team.
The 50-year-old, who first came to Ferrari in 2001, will now move to Haas to further strengthen the technical alliance between the two teams.
Haas announced on Wednesday that he has signed Ferrari Driver Academy member Mick Schumacher for a racing seat in 2021. This is the first time a Ferrari-affiliated racer has been featured on the grid as a Ferrari Engine Customer since starting in 2016.
Resta’s place as head of chassis technology will be taken by Enrico Cardile, who was appointed head of Ferrari’s new performance development department as part of a major restructuring initiated by team boss Mattia Binotto in July.
Cardile previously worked as head of aerodynamics at Ferrari.
In a statement, Ferrari stated that “other areas as set out in the organizational changes announced on July 22nd will remain the same, with Enrico Gualtieri heading the Power Unit division and sporting director Laurent Mekies responsible for track activities”.
Binotto said Resta’s departure after Haas could benefit both teams as the introduction of new regulations from 2022 “creates new challenges that we must approach with pragmatism and openness”.
“For this reason, we believe that our long-term relationship with Haas, which dates back to the first time in Formula One, should be the foundation for both parties to benefit from potential synergies that are in line with FIA regulations. “said Binotto.
“With this in mind, we are pleased to announce that the highly rated Simone Resta will join the American team’s technical department at the beginning of next year.
“This is another step in the continued evolution of the team’s technical department.
“Simone, whom we thank for his efforts so far, will play an important role in a team that has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Formula One.
“It has just strengthened an already very close relationship with Scuderia by taking over the Ferrari Driver Academy driver, Mick Schumacher.
“Within the Scuderia, Enrico Cardile will now have the task of coordinating the technical and human resources that are directly related to the performance development and design of the car.”
Ferrari is currently sixth in the Constructors’ Championship with two races to go in a disappointing 2020 season, while Haas is just three points ahead of Williams in ninth place.
