Schumacher, who is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, had a challenging season trying to get a grip on the tricky Haas car.

While showing maturity and team player, the German was involved in a few incidents with teammate Nikita Mazepin and had a major crash in training prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix.

But after having the best result of the season with 12th place last time in Hungary, Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto believes there are encouraging signs of progress that he hopes can continue into the second half of the season .

“Mick in his very first year in Formula 1 for Haas. I think we said at the beginning of the season that the goal for him was not pressure to begin with, but to make sure he learned,” said Binotto.

“So 2021 has to be an important year for him in terms of learning. And I think if we look at that goal, he’s fine.

“I think Mick has been doing well since the beginning of the season, he’s learning, he’s making progress. A few mistakes, of course, but that’s part of the learning process.

“So overall I think we can be happy with the balance so far. It is important to him to develop and develop further in the second half. But I am confident that he can do that. “

Binotto, while happy with Schumacher’s progress, says Ferrari can’t be so happy with the results of its other FDA disciples.

Regarding the FDA’s performance, Binotto said, “When I look at the Ferrari Driver Academy’s young drivers, there is no doubt that the overall results are not as good as last year.

“Last year I think we achieved great results, especially in Formula 2, which we didn’t [this year]. So I think that overall we can’t be as happy as we were. “
