F1 vet Magnussen replaces Rosenqvist at Road America

Formula 1 veteran Kevin Magnussen will replace Felix Rosenqvist at the wheel of the No. 7 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet at the REV Group Grand Prix this weekend at Road America.

Magnussen, 28, will make his debut in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Rosenqvist was not cleared for this weekend’s race by INDYCAR medical staff following a serious accident on Saturday during the first race of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit on the Belle Isle Road Circuit.

The Danish driver Magnussen is competing full-time for Chip Ganassi Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this season and is traveling to Road America after an overall victory last Saturday in Ganassi’s Cadillac prototype.

Magnussen moved to North American racing this year after completing 119 F1 starts for teams McLaren, Renault and Haas between 2014-20. McLaren achieved his best F1 result as runner-up at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix. Magnussen was also a team-mate of the current NTT INDYCAR SERIES rookie standout Romain Grosjean in the Haas F1 Team from 2017-20.

His debut will mean a return to the INDYCAR SERIES for the Magnussen family. His father, sports car racing legend and F1 veteran Jan Magnussen, made limited CART starts in 1996 and 1999. Kevin Magnussen is the first driver from Denmark to compete in the INDYCAR SERIES since Ronnie Bremer drove in Champ Car in 2005.

Practice for the REV Group Grand Prix begins Friday at 5:15 p.m. ET, live on Peacock. The live broadcast of the 55 lap race will begin on Sunday noon (ET) on NBCSN and the INDYCAR Radio Network, with the green flag scheduled for 12:45 p.m.
