
The German was spotted several times this year as he spent time after the races to get up close and personal with tires and designs of other cars.
It’s something that both his father Michael and friend Sebastian Vettel tried regularly throughout their careers to better understand what the opposition is up to.
After the recent Styrian Grand Prix, footage of one of the McLaren Schumacher’s on board showed how he came by and carefully inspected the MCL35M car and the cockpit in the Perc ferme after the race.
The Haas driver says why he is doing it, the Haas driver says that he learned that at the beginning of his race – as it can impart some good knowledge.
“It’s something I’ve been doing since karting, really,” he said. “It’s always good to know, especially what the tires look like on other cars, and to see if I can understand that and learn from it.
“Tires are like an open book. They will show you every little bug and detail from other cars and my car too. I think inspecting other cars is always part of it, and I will continue to do so.
“I would also come closest to another car in Parc Ferme. I can’t go into anyone’s garage and say, ‘Hi, I’m just going to look at your car and then leave.’ It is definitely interesting to see it. “

Schumacher earned praise this year for his positive attitude and strong work ethic at Haas, especially considering the car isn’t among the most competitive on the market.
And although he has not yet collected any points, Schumacher himself says that he is enjoying the challenge of his rookie season.
“I’m relatively happy with the way it is going, but it’s obviously difficult in terms of performance,” he said. “Nevertheless, we have found our way around and can work well together.
“I enjoy my time here so much that it is easy for me to come to work and work late because it’s so much fun. I think that is really reflected in my performance. It is important to me that the hard work pays off at some point and I hope so. “
