According to Günther Steiner, the new cars that Formula 1 introduced in 2022 will not have a major impact on the racing spectacle if the sport approves sprint qualifying for the next season.

The British Grand Prix hosted the first sprint event, which demonstrated exciting races in the first few laps before subsiding after some order of the field.

In 2022 there will be radically new aerodynamic structures aimed at promoting more exciting races, and while he confirms the potential for the format, Haas team boss Steiner doesn’t think the new regulations will change too much.

“In general, what happened is a bit fresh, but I don’t like it,” said Steiner.

“We had some competition on Friday, something to fight for.

“Of course it’s difficult because we’re where we are, but when you’re fighting for something, it’s very exciting for the team and for the spectators, because there is qualifying on Friday, a sprint qualifying on Saturday and that Race on Sunday so there is always “something happens where competition is involved.

“At the moment we are testing on Friday. The fans have the ultimate word, not me, because we are working on it and what we might find exciting and interesting, the fans either do not like to see or not”.

“Of course there is still a lot of work going on to evaluate and get the opinions of the people we actually want to see, but in general I’m pretty positive about the weekend right after the event so let’s see what,” the fans say .

“I don’t think there will be much of an impact on how the format plays out. There won’t be much of a change from the cars that will be next year.”

Steiner satisfied with the progress made in 2022

Haas was the first team to focus on the new race of cars when it stopped developing its 2021 machine in January.

When asked about the progress in the plant, Steiner explained: “The status is the wind tunnel model is in the wind tunnel, but we have been developing the car since January and are using the wind tunnel to get the most out of the regulations so that everything goes ahead.

“Actually, I’m pretty happy with this progress.”
