Another goalless race by Haas at the Grand Prix for the 70th anniversary will not get the team down, says team boss Günther Steiner – especially when larger outfits fought in a similar way at Silverstone.
Haas has only scored once this season. Kevin Magnussen took a single point for 10th place when the team relied on strategy at the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Gene Haas’ team is trying to negotiate without upgrades this season due to the uniqueness of 2020, and Steiner admitted that the team’s performance at Silverstone only reinforced his belief that it will be a tough year.
POWER RANKINGS: Who is the new king of the ranking after the 70th anniversary GP?
“I think we’re trying to get the best out of what we have, nothing else,” said Steiner. “At the moment they are [plan] let’s try to get through. If we get through better days will be ahead.
“But this season will be a challenge, I said that from the start. It’s going to be a challenging season after what we’ve learned from the first two races in Austria. We just keep working hard and always trying to get the most out of what we have. “
The team was unable to improve the number of constructors in any of the Silverstone races
After a fantastic short break, Magnussen was eliminated late on Sunday, while Romain Grosjean was limited to 16th place on the checkered flag. Both drivers had major tire problems in hot conditions.
“It wasn’t great as you saw,” said Steiner. “Kevin just couldn’t hold his tires together, he kept wearing them and at some point it just became too dangerous to keep changing the tires. Of course, we had to withdraw it from bubbles and vibrations for safety reasons.

“Romain, we’ve tried and sometimes it’s not worth the risk based on what you’re risking. So we decided to include him and that was it. We really had problems with the tires to manage them, the rear tires.
“Mainly it was the soft tires in the race, the higher temperatures and the higher pressure. I think the combination of all of that was fatal. Some people did it from a single source, but I think that was on the verge for everyone in the end. It was the same for everyone and even Mercedes fought for what it all says. “

Steiner was not surprised by Haas’ struggles
Like Mercedes, Steiner didn’t see such fights for Haas due to Friday practice so he’s not sure how difficult the Spanish Grand Prix is likely to be when the final triple header comes to an end.
“It’s so hard to say because here, too, the softer we are, we didn’t expect this big problem in the race. We didn’t really expect them after the test on Friday, some of the tires came out completely different than we expected, but then you have to think that we also increased the pressure. So it’s a combination of things and until we test the tires on Friday [in Spain] It will be difficult to make a prediction. “
