In 2020, Williams couldn’t score a single point. This season they have 23. Only Alfa Romeo and Haas are doing less. Based on recent past results, it’s hard to imagine that one of the most famous F1 teams, Williams, will catch up with the top teams quickly.
Ambitions are great
Still, the ambitions are great. Very big, in fact. Williams wants to become world champion again within ten years. An ambitious plan, admits CEO Jost Capito in an interview with The Race. “We’re really serious. We think about the next 10 years. We’ll see what Formula 1 looks like in the 30s? And based on that, we break that down. What does that mean for the next five years? ? What does that mean for the next two years? And what does it mean by the end of 21? ”There will be new rules and probably new teams.
“It is possible, not impossible,” said Capito when asked whether a title would even be possible without a works team. Still, there are rumors that Williams is also considering an exclusive partnership. The name Volkswagen has been mentioned more and more recently. The connection to Williams is of course easy to establish, because Capito was Volkswagen Sports Director for many years in the WRC rally championship.
“There are different ways and you have to see what opportunities arise,” says Capito about a deal with Volkswagen. Anyway, Williams is very serious about being number one again.
