Bottas leads the morning session in Portugal ahead of Verstappen

After a two-week break, the FIA Formula 1 World Championship returns when the teams traveled to Portimao Portuguese Grand Prix, starting with one hour of running in Free Practice 1.

The meeting was crowned by Valtteri Bottas He wants to get well again this weekend in Portugal after fighting his way over Imola two weeks ago before colliding with him George Russell.

Max Verstappen finished second despite concerns at the end of the morning session when the Dutchman complained about the vibration and lack of temperature in his soft tires before setting his fastest time of the session.

The seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton fought at the beginning and called the W12 “not drivable” and couldn’t keep up with the speed of his team-mate, only fifth fastest. Verstappen Red Bull Racing Teammate Sergio Perez was in third place, a significant improvement over the two previous Grand Prix.

Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow showed a promise to fill the void McLaren F1 Team in Imola after fourth and fifth place and added more evidence in Portugal this morning. Charles Leclerc recorded the fourth fastest time, five tenths behind Bottas, while his team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr. was seventh fastest.

One team that seems to be enjoying Friday’s workouts is Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda With Pierre Gasly 6th fastest and rookie driver, Yuki Tsunoda, in the thirteenth who are interested in eliminating the memories of qualifying at Imola.

Russell makes it into the top ten

The surprise of the morning session was Russell, who was only eight tenths behind Bottas and was seventh fastest, even though he was in one Williams runbut it is likely that the British driver was in a qualifying simulation. His teammate Nicholas LatifI was at the end of the grid in the nineteenth.

Lando Norris Had a spectacular weekend at Imola last time around and finished third to take the second podium of his career. We hope that we can build on that performance this weekend. The British rider continued to outperform his new teammate Daniel Ricciardo when he finished eighth with Australians in twelfth place.

Alpine F1 team managed to score their first points of the season in Imola two weeks ago after both drivers had been promoted to the top ten Kimi Raikkonen received a penalty. The newly renamed team continues to float in the bottom ten Esteban Ocon in the tenth and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso in the fourteenth.

Probably the biggest disappointments this season are Aston Martin Cognizant Formula 1 teamand the morning practice in Portugal suggests it won’t improve. Lance Stroll drove eleven quick, five tenths faster than his four-time world champion team-mate Sebastian Vettel in the sixteenth. The German also had a moment forgotten when he drove into the McLaren pit, a similar place to Ferrari last season.

Callum Ilott took part in his very first F1 training session after joining Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN second reserve driver in the week. The runner-up of the F2 2020 outperformed Michael sSchumacher and Nikita Mazepin Seventeenth fastest, only four tenths behind the veteran Raikkonen in fifteenth.

Not surprising, Uralkali Haas F1 Team were at the end of the pack. Schumacher continued to beat his team-mate and rookie while both drivers were out and about in the Algarve for the first time in their careers.

The morning session is useful for data collection, but it doesn’t really give us any real representation of performance and pace on the track. The second session will likely give us more information before the weekend.
