Don’t know, but a young Formula 3 driver is determined to become the fourth Schumacher in Formula 1.

The seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher made his debut in 1991, followed by his brother Ralf in 1997, and in that year Michael’s only son Mick entered the top class with the Haas F1 team.

At the most recent Grand Prix in Austria, 19-year-old David Schumacher – Ralf’s son and thus Mick’s cousin – won his first FIA Formula 3 race.

“It definitely changed something in me,” David told the European media company RTL. “The pressure has definitely eased. It helped and I feel better now. You won’t forget your first win in such a top category. I looked down and saw my father, who was really happy.”

Schumacher drives for the Trident team and insists that he doesn’t follow the policy of handing them the trophy.

“The team can tell me what it wants. I’ll take the trophy with me,” said David.

It is clear that David Schumacher and his father Ralf have higher ambitions for their future as David shot at some of his fellow F3 drivers.

“I think this category is very aggressive in general, but there are a lot of aggressive drivers who are unfortunately also idiots who risk too much if it never works out. So it’s not easy,” said David.

Schumacher started his career in top-class formula cars rather modestly. He remained goalless in 18 Formula 3 races in 2020. His victory in Austria at the Red Bull Ring was his first race in the points since nine starts of the season. He is 14th overall.

When asked whether his ultimate goal was Formula 1, Schumacher replied: “On a scale from 1 to 10, I would say the answer is probably 100.

“The dream is always there and always will be. I will give everything to make it come true and I hope it works.”
