There is already an American team in Formula 1, Haas F1, which has been at the start since 2016. However, if the latest rumors come true, the sport could get a second team from the US.
Recently reports surfaced that the Andretti Autosport racing team may be interested in acquiring a controlling stake in the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 team’s owner company, Islero Investments. With the reports come rumors that the racing team is finding its way into Formula 1.
Although the reports remain sketchy at this point, there are good reasons to believe that such a scheme would make sense for Andretti Autosport, as The Race covers in its video on the subject.
By buying the majority stake in Islero Investments, the American team would gain control of Sauber Motorsport and Sauber Engineering. All of this would be attractive to Andretti Autosport as the independent team already has excellent infrastructure, including an advanced wind tunnel.

Buying control of an existing team would be attractive to Americans as well, as new teams assembled from all the stuff could potentially be subject to an entry fee of $ 200 million. This would avoid this altogether while avoiding the costs associated with starting a new F1 team.
Andretti Autosport has also officially signaled interest in competing in Formula 1, although they wouldn’t really comment on questions about the deal.
“The entry into Formula 1 was interesting for Michael [Andretti] and the team for some time and we have explored many options over the years but at this point we have nothing new to report, ”the team said in a statement.
The move could also benefit Formula 1, which has openly expressed interest in expanding its presence in the United States. With Andretti Autosport driver Colton Herta becoming increasingly associated with Formula 1, the deal could even result in an American driver returning to the starting grid.
With the cost caps coming along with new races in America, Andretti Autosport may not be the only team F1 looks attractive to.
