The 2021 Turkish Grand Prix will forever be one of the most exciting races of recent times. The thrilling, nerve-wracking finish left the Formula 1 spectators on their feet.
The whole country came together in joy when F1 arrived at Istanbul Park last month as it had been so long since fans in motorsport saw anything nearly as exciting.
Supported by many famous landmarks, Istanbul goes down in F1 history as one of the best Grand Prix locations of all time. The F1 book starts with a bang; Now all you have to do is answer this question – where can I bet on Formula 1?
Mick Schumacher, Valtteri Bottas and Carlos Sainz Jnr are F1 stars who have all driven the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport car this year. There is a lot of excitement about these three drivers for a variety of reasons. Mick Schumacher is the son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, who has been critically injured in the head in a skiing accident since 2006.
A story like this leaves the fans very scared, hoping Mick can live up to his father’s legacy and be just as successful on the track. Valtteri Bottas had an impressive 2018 season with Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport, winning two races and finishing second in both world championships. Let’s look at the stars in detail.
Mick Schumacher
Mick, the qualifying king, brought his Haas-Ferrari into Q2 because of his performance, defeating McLaren and taking 14th place, his best result of his career. The track was hot, but he didn’t mind because one less person could punch him forward!
In rainy conditions, Schumacher started 14th on Pirelli Cinturato Green Intermediates (tires), but was involved in an early collision with Alpine Fernando Alonso. Through turn four, Schumacher was forced into a spin and sank to the end of the field.
The stewards gave Alonso an apparent sanction after the stewards ruled that Schumacher was the innocent party. Schumacher slipped back and went into the race on lap 41 of 58 to tackle another set of intermediates. He kept the car rolling until the checkered flag and finished 19th.
There is no doubt that this thoroughbred racer has what it takes to overtake his famous father. Mick started his career in 2008 under Mick Betsch and has since returned to his familiar last name. Mick is a winner and someone to watch out for in the upcoming Grand Prix season.
Valtteri Bottas
Valtteri Bottas took pole position for the Formula 1 Grand Prix after beating Max Verstappen by two tenths of a second.
The decisive moment came after he had gained momentum all the time through clever strategic pit stops and clean tires, creating an opportunity in which Bottas jumped right past Charles Leclerc. It was then Bottas fell from behind with almost no resistance, which led to victory.
After qualifying in second, Bottas led the race until his pit stop. After pitting for new tires with Hamilton (who was serving an additional penalty), he won by over 14 seconds!
He also did it in style, overtaking LeClerc’s Ferrari after they got involved in the first corner and taking the win over Verstappen.
The Turkish GP was his most successful Formula 1 season to date, largely thanks to the downplaying of mistakes and the benefits of others making them. Boy, a lot happens here, just for us to enjoy – let’s not forget all the awards that Bottas has for his name.
Bottas has won many awards for its success. Sky Sports named him Most Improved Driver in 2014 and he won the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy in 2018.
Carlos Sainz
Carlos Sainz Jnr, son of rally driver Carlos Sainz Snr, finished ninth in Q1 and improved by one starting position thanks to Ricciardo’s engine change. CSJ fought his way into the top ten on lap 14 with the help of incidents in front of him on the track, but without a long pit stop in 36th place on the last lap could quickly have been more than eighth – luckily. He won 11 places!
After joining McLaren for the 2019 season, Carlos Sainz’s contract with Red Bull Racing ended. At the Brazilian Grand Prix he clinched his first Formula 1 podium with third place in São Paulo and another just two years later in Monza. From there he left at the end of the season and switched to Ferrari, where he races today.
Daniel Ricciardo
The Australian ace had a tough time in the wet conditions. He did not make it into Q1 and missed qualifying for the final by less than a tenth of a second (16th place). But only 20 laps before the start of the engine penalties, he changed the unit from “accident man” to “defender tank mode”, which gave him an impressive boost on the grid.
This tactic gave way to two places: The 10th previously was now 5th after his impressive drive-through penalty. A true racer spirit shines through the actions of this man, especially at the Grand Prix.
Nikita Mazepin
Mazepin qualified 2.8 seconds slower than teammate Mick Schumacher, the slowest of all groups in Q1. Mazepin turned twice but took an early lead only to land behind Schumacher after drivers pitted for new intermediate tires. After the pit stop, however, his pace dropped dramatically to two laps as he focused on staying close. Some would say close, but not nearly enough to affect the race.
Nikita is a Russian racing driver who currently drives under the Haas F1 team banner and has been competing since the 2014 championship season. He dominated German championships such as the ADAC Formula Masters or the DTM series before he achieved his first successes.
