F1 teams prepare for one of the biggest regulation revisions in championship history when a brand new car is introduced for the next season as part of a rule revolution.
The 2022 cars will present a different challenge to drivers as they are heavier, use ground effect and ride on 18 inch tires as F1 wants to produce cars that make it easier to follow others and race.
When asked if Ferrari drivers would have been given the opportunity to try out a simulated version of the 2022 car, Leclerc confirmed: “Yes, we did. But it’s still very, very early.
“It feels very different. Then, I think, everyone has a question mark as to whether we are developing well or not. As I said, it’s a completely different project.

“It’s still very, very early, so nobody knows where we are compared to the others. But we are working on it.”
Ferrari is hoping to capitalize on the dramatic changes in regulations and return to winning ways in 2022 after seeing its worst season in four decades last year.

The Italian team have seen a competitive rise this season, taking two pole positions, although they still seem unable to fight for wins or the World Championship.
And Leclerc said both he and his teammate Carlos Sainz had done prep work early for 2022 to kick off.
“It’s difficult because right now it’s just numbers and predictions, but we can definitely give our feedback, especially in the simulator,” he said.
“[We’re lucky] to have a very good simulator in Ferrari and we can try different things on this simulator and there the input from the driver is very, very important.
“Then on to other things for the moment, it is still very early that we will actually say something. The only thing we can do is work with Carlos as best we can to try to explain the weaknesses of this year’s car, understand why we have those weaknesses, and try to fix those flaws for next year’s car not reproduce. Even if the project is completely different.
“Well, I say to the simulator, we have quite a lot of input and can help a lot. And with this year’s feedback to try and help the team work in the right direction and know exactly what to do quickly. “
