"We are almost on a par with Mercedes"– Red Bull boss predicts his team and Silver Arrows will be at front for 2022 competition

Red Bull and Mercedes should be at the forefront again in the championship fight in 2022, even if radical changes leave room for upheaval.

The F1 regulations of 2022 were seen as a reason to increase competition between teams. As a result, chances are a team that can’t keep up with the title runners could make quick progress.

However, Red Bull boss Helmut Marko reveals that the two title rivals for the 2021 season – Red Bull and Mercedes – will also be at the top in the 2022 title fight.

“Max drove in the simulator in between [races]“, Said Marko to Servus TV. “He can drive a car that is relatively unstable at the rear. For him, the car has to be as fast as possible. It doesn’t have to be comfortable.

“At the moment we believe that we are almost on a par with Mercedes. The engine will also change significantly [with synthetic fuel being introduced]. That is a drastic change.

“We think we’re both back in front, unless someone manages a golden shot like with the double diffuser.”

Red Bull takes on the Ferrari challenge

While Mercedes and Red Bull will compete against each other in 2022, there is a good chance that Ferrari will attract both teams in 2022.

The Maranello-based team claims to have found an exciting innovation in the car and engine in the 2022 regulations. So it would be interesting to see the title fight between the three teams.

However, Ferrari has also warned that they won’t fully attack the two best teams in the competition next year. Nevertheless, they will not see upward progress for their team until 2022.

So another third place for Ferrari wouldn’t be surprising, but they would try to close the blatant gap between the title runners in 2022.
