With the first practice session, F1 recently ended its eighth race weekend of the 2021 season at the Styrian Grand Prix. And Pierre Gasly secured an unexpected P2 ahead of the Mercedes duo and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez. However, despite the successful appearance, the Frenchman had a rather furious moment during the session.

Gasly was on a hot lap during a low fuel run only to be sabotaged by Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. This made the AlphaTauri driver red in the face when, like his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, he cursed over the team radio.

What did Pierre Gasly say?

The moment this incident occurred, Gasly went to his team radio to destroy the Spaniard, assuming he was blind.

“Carlos is a bloody king … is a bloody blind man. Thinks he’s alone. I honestly can’t fucking believe him, man.

“I let him pass, what’s the point of doing something like that?” said Gasly.

Of course, Gasly had a positive FP1 at the Red Bull Ring and drove a little more than 0.2 seconds slower than Max Verstappen. However, this season the drivers are carrying more pressure than they used to be in practice.

Why, you might ask?

Well, this season, F1 announced that FP1 and FP2 will each lose 30 minutes, which adds up to an hour. And with the shortened run time, drivers are forced to squeeze their programs within the timeframe, with each lap being extremely crucial.

Can AlphaTauri F1 continue to shine in Austria?

It was undoubtedly a brilliant start for AlphaTauri’s appearance at the Red Bull Ring. It wasn’t just Gasly who shone in FP1, but also his teammate; Tsunoda managed to secure P5 and lock in the Mercedes duo.

Given how the first hour went for AlphaTauri, they could therefore consider a strong finish in Styria to keep Aston Martin at bay; the British team is only 5 points behind the Italian team in the constructors’ table.

Also, with straight-line speed being one of AlphaTauri’s greatest assets, the Red Bull Ring could be the track to demonstrate its dominance over midfield rivals. So will AlphaTauri prove to be the alphas around the classic racing track in Spielberg?
