Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have formed a formidable partnership and friendship over that two years as teammates. In a sport where teammates are your biggest rivals, the duo also share a great deal of respect for each other.

Carlos Sainz celebrated his 28th birthday today and his teammate had a special surprise planned for him. However, to execute this plan, Leclerc had to endure some extreme measures. In an interview later, he revealed in order to surprise the birthday boy, he had to squeeze himself into the cupboard for 15 minutes; as Sainz went around doing his own thing.

In the video posted by Scuderia Ferrari on Instagram, Sainz is seen roaming around the room, possibly looking for his surprise. Charles Leclerc, on the other hand, waits patiently in the closet to surprise him with party poppers in hand.

The Monegasque then revealed himself with a bang, taking Sainz by surprise as he screamed like a little girl. After coming out of the cupboard, Leclerc said, “My legs are dead”, possibly because of being locked in for 15 long minutes.

The Ferrari drivers are hopeful that they can find their early season form and challenge for victories in the upcoming races. Furthermore, both the drivers would anticipate spoiling Verstappen’s homecoming and win the Dutch Grand Prix.

Sainz said, “I don’t think we were as bad as it seems and I think we can be back on form this weekend and fighting for pole and the win. Maybe I’m just being too optimistic and hopeful that we will not see that [large gap to Red Bull] happen again but it’s my feeling and maybe this weekend it will prove me completely wrong but we will see,”

Meanwhile, Leclerc will look to give Max a run for his money to win in Zandvoort. The Monegasque said, “I think track characteristics helped a little bit Red Bull in Spa, but it doesn’t explain the whole difference there was. But we’ve been working very hard in the last few days; we have some ideas where it is coming from but we’ll only have confirmation in Monza on a track that is a bit similar to Spa.”
