The masterful Ferrari F1 engine is sold for $ 41,000 at auction

Motorsport fans in my age group love or hate Formula 1 superstar Michael Schumacher. But one thing cannot be denied in Schumi’s peak performance in the 2000s – he was a legendary racing driver in a legendary car.

With the latter one should note that Ferrari engines were to be praised. The Ferrari F2003-GA Formula 1 engine was a force to be reckoned with when it was introduced during the 2003 F1 season. It was one for the automaker’s books, winning three of its first four races and eventually winning both the constructors ‘and drivers’ championships that year.

One of the original F2003-GA engines from the 2003 season went on the auction block at Collecting Cars in the UK. With 66 bids on record, the engine was sold on December 4, 2021 for 36,000 euros or around 40,700 US dollars at current exchange rates.

The winner will take home the original F2003-GA engine housing and cylinder heads. The screaming Ferrari 3.0-liter V10 mill was capable of producing up to 845 hp (630 kilowatts) at 18,300 rpm. In order to keep the weight of the racing car as low as possible, the masterful engine is largely made of aluminum and magnesium.

If you can remember, the 2003 season got to the point. It was a three-way battle between Ferrari, Williams and McLaren, with the season undecided until the last race at Suzuka in Japan. Schumacher and Barrichello took the laurels for Ferrari. The German racing driver won his sixth world title, beating Juan Manuel Fangio’s 46-year-old record.

It goes without saying that the F2003-GA F1 engine is a historical masterpiece that would make a great centerpiece of an exotic garage.
