
Sebastian Vettel had a sub-par F1 season in 2021 with the Aston Martin team. There was much speculation about his resignation before the start of the season after leaving Ferrari. However, he stayed in F1 in 2021 and also signed a one-year contract extension with the Silverstone-based team in September that year.

The German is one of the most popular drivers in F1 because of his human qualities and heroics on the track. Even if many believe Vettel’s best racing days are behind him, his experience still makes him one of the deadliest drivers in the field. Vettel recently admitted that it occurred to him to hang up his boots.
However, he says the fire is still burning to drive and he would like to continue. Vettel took a well-deserved podium in Baku this year. The German’s other podium in Hungary was canceled after his car failed to deliver the required one liter of fuel sample.

Sebastian Vettel shares his thoughts on retirement
Vettel made his debut for Scuderia Toro Rosso at the United States GP in 2007. It was a long way from then until 2021. After all these years he still managed to take cutlery home with him; he won the first Crypto.com award for most overtaking maneuvers that season. 15 seasons, 280 Grand Prix, 53 wins and 4 championships later, however, the German star was asked about his plans for retirement.
He gave an honest and straightforward answer to this. In a recent interview with F1 Insider, Vettel said, “Of course, sometimes you ask yourself what makes sense. I would be lying if I said that the thought hadn’t crossed my mind yet. “
“But I don’t just convey messages. Then I would not be true to myself and I would no longer be so good, ”he added.

However, he stressed that the desire to be part of the sport is still there. That being said, Vettel said that if he doesn’t have a similar passion, he’d rather leave his place to a youngster and hang up his F1 helmet.

“If I no longer feel the inner drive and ambition and only hold on to it to convey news or to increase my account balance, it would be betraying the generation that is still to come and living this dream.”
“Because I can still take care of certain topics when I’m no longer driving. But the fire is still burning, ”concluded the 34-year-old.
