SEASON PREVIEW: Formula 1 World Championship 2021 – Scuderia Ferrari

SEASON PREVIEW: Formula 1 World Championship 2021 - Scuderia Ferrari

Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow suffered one of their worst seasons during the 2020 FIA Formula 1 ChampionshipHowever, the Italian team starts 2021 with a brand new pairing to significantly improve the results.

A season for Ferrari to forget

Sixth in the World Championship, scoring 131 points. 2020 was Ferrari’s worst season in 40 years, and signs of immediate improvement don’t look promising. Last year began with the Italian team and the FIA reaching an agreement on a mysterious engine regulation after suspicion of the legality of the engine was raised in 2019, which saw a significant performance advantage over the rest of the network.

Throughout the 2020 season, Ferrari fought for speed and balance in the car. It started out promising Charles Leclerc He was on the podium at the Austrian Grand Prix, but went downhill from there. Leclerc had a series of mixed performances that put him in eighth place in the championship, five places ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel. The German suffered significantly from Ferrari’s downgrade and finished thirteenth with the Italian team in his final season. This ended a five-year term of office.

A new partnership for 2021

Carlos Sainz Jr. is a new addition to Ferrari for the 2021 season and replaces Vettel after Ferrari decided not to extend his contract beyond the 2020 season. His last season at McLaren F1 Team showed why Ferrari put pressure on the Spaniard and performed some promising performances, particularly at the Italian Grand Prix where he finished second on the podium just seconds behind the race winner Pierre Gasly.

After a strong year for McLaren, who finished third in the constructors’ championship, many wondered if the Sainz decision was the right move, especially as they are now switching to Mercedes-powered engines for the 2021 season.

The Spaniard will want to pick up where he left off last season after finishing sixth in the championship and beating both Ferrari drivers and Ferrari drivers Alex Albon from Red Bull Racing. However, to get similar results in the SF21Sainz really needs to push the car to its limits, with a focus on the new regulations in 2022.

Leclerc to rebuild trust

Leclerc started his second season at Ferrari in 2020, which was a complete contrast to his inaugural year on the team. It went from challenging for a championship to winning races to fighting for the second quarter in qualifying. The young rider struggled so often to get a grip on the SF20 but still managed to achieve some stellar results, including the Austrian Grand Prix and the Great Britain Grand Prix.

Leclerc showed in his inaugural season that he deserves to fight among the best, but it looks like it could be another season before Ferrari challenges Mercedes and Red Bull again. However, the Italian team showed a slight increase in speed compared to their 2020 car in the pre-season tests and clocked up the third fastest time over the weekend. Leclerc drove the fourth-most laps with 212 laps and set the fastest time with 1: 30.486, which was the thirteenth fastest in the three days.

With another season in midfield for Ferrari and Leclerc ahead, it could be a good time for the young driver to rebuild his confidence and improve his F1 career even further to ensure he is fully developed when hopefully Ferrari is back returns to the top of the grid in 2022.

What can you expect in 2021?

Ferrari is unlikely to see any significant improvement in 2021, despite finishing third fastest in pre-season tests with a time of 1: 29.611 on the C5 compound. Mattia BinottoFerrari’s team principal has confirmed that SF21 is faster than the 2020 car, but it doesn’t seem enough to regain its place as the third fastest team on the grid. 2021 will ultimately be another write-off for the Italian team, with concentrations on 2022 with the new regulations.

Not only will Sainz’s arrival bring more consistent results for the team, but it will hopefully take Leclerc to the next level. Leclerc is unlikely to be among the best again with the expectation of another season in midfield. The new partnership will hopefully develop into a good partnership on and off the track to prepare for the 2022 season.
