Vettel put in a masterful performance in Baku to be the driver of the day
F1 technical director, former Ferrari chief technical officer and founder of Brawn GP, which became the Mercedes F1 team, Ross Brawn has highly praised Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel after the Azerbaijan GP. He has referred to the former four-time world champion as a man born again after many believed the 33-year-old German was past his prime after a hot few years at Ferrari and a bad start to his Aston Martin career.

Ross Brawn was the technical head for Ferrari when Michael Schumacher won his 5 titles with the team
“I was one of the people who was unsure of the decision Aston made to sign, but it looks like a great decision based on the way he drives and the results he’s got,” Brawn wrote in one Column on the Formula 1 website.
“He’s reborn. He’s refreshed. He’s got a different mood. And it just shows how the whole psychological aspect can affect performance. Seb found himself in a much more comfortable place, with the right pressure and with engineers, he learns to work with him. He achieves results and he deserves it. Bravo, “said the man who was one of the pivotal points for Michael Schumacher’s success.
In May 2020 Ferrari announced that it would not renew the German’s contract, but instead hired Carlos Sainz Jr. as a replacement. It did so before the 2020 season began as it was delayed due to the pandemic. As fate would have it, Ferrari experienced its worst season in 40 years, but the German was somewhat embarrassed by Charles Leclerc, who was 22 at the time.

Vettel’s guest appearance at Aston Martin could be the German’s swan song
His signing with Racing Point, to be renamed Aston Martin, was controversial as he replaced Sergio Perez, who had a contract with the team until 2023. He was by far the best driver of the team ahead of Lance Stroll, the son of the team owner Lawrence Stroll. This led to a situation where the formidable Mexican was left without a drive for 2021, despite news at the end of the season that Perez would be joining Red Bull, Vettel’s old team with whom the German had won his 4 world titles.
And so it happened on Sunday when Perez cashed in when his teammate Max Verstappen crashed to win the race, but Vettel put in an even better performance, reaching P2, the first podium for Aston Martin as a designer also from P11. This was his second impressive trot performance when the German finished fifth in Monaco. He was voted driver of the day in both races.

“I think I was confident that it would click at some point and of course Monaco was great. You can argue that it takes a bit of the pressure, but I think obviously the expectations are pretty high at the beginning of the year, so” the year it was good to get a good result “, cheered Vettel at the end of the race, now with 28 points in ninth place overall in the drivers’ standings after zero points in the first four races.
