Remote-controlled car company Tamiya unveils the drivable Wild One Max

Remote controlled car company Tamiya reveals driveable Wild One model

TAMIYA, the remote-controlled car company that was responsible for endless hours of childhood fun in the 1980s, has released a full-size drivable model that can be street legal upon request.

The model is based on the Wild One, one of the most popular Tamiya models from the heyday of the eighties. It was made in collaboration with The Little Car Company, who also worked on the Type 35-inspired Bugatti Baby II and the Aston Martin DB5 Junior.

At 3.5 meters long, it’s roughly eight-tenths the size of a real beach buggy, though the company insists that drivers up to 6 feet 5 inches can get comfortable.

Like the remote-controlled Grasshopper car Tamiya reissued before Father’s Day, the Wild One Max must be made at home. However, unless you have very wide door frames, you can’t do it in front of the TV.

Once assembled, the car will have a space frame chassis, four-wheel coilover kit, 15-inch off-road tires and brakes from Brembo, which also supply units to the Ferrari F1 team. These are supported by regenerative systems that increase the range. There are also multiple driving modes suitable for a range of driving skills including beginner, eco, and racing.

Thanks to 5.5 HP, which is supplied by a 2 kWh battery, a top speed of 48 km / h can be achieved (for comparison: the battery in a VW ID.4 is 77 kWh). The range is somewhere in the region of 25 miles, depending on how much you rag it up.

However, all of these numbers can be improved upon thanks to Tamiya’s signature “Hop Ups” which can improve top speed, add a four-point seat belt, and even modify the car to meet European standards of a “four-wheel” brake lights, turn signals, reflectors and rearview mirrors .
