Michael Schumacher’s 1998 Ferrari F300 Formula One car has been listed for sale, with an asking price of $US4.9 million ($AU6.7 million).
The German driver is widely considered to be one of the sport’s greatest competitors, and in 1998 finished second in the World Championship behind McLaren’s Mika Häkkinen.
The specific chassis for sale started two races that year; the Luxembourg Grand Prix – at the Nürburgring in Germany, with the race named as such as there were already German and European GPs on the calendar – where it crossed the line third, and the season finale in Japan where it did not finish.
Schumacher’s failure to finish in Japan – following a puncture caused by debris from other cars – prevented a maiden championship with the Italian outfit.
However, he would go on to win five titles for Ferrari between 2000 and 2004 – giving him a total of seven championship victories, and making him the most successful driver ever up until that point.
