Gasly led AlphaTauri to its all-time best season in terms of points scored as it narrowly missed out on fifth place in the Constructors Championship.
The Frenchman regularly managed Q3 in qualifying and consistently secured ninth place in the drivers’ standings.
Looking at the season as a whole, Gasly believes AlphaTauri should be proud of what has been achieved.
“We’re getting close to Alpine, it’s always difficult to see such a lead after 22 races, but overall what we’ve achieved as a team is incredible when we look at the past few years as AlphaTauri and Toro Rosso,” said he. “So I’m really proud of these guys and also hopeful of what we can achieve [2022] because they have proven that they can perform at a very high level.

“I know that next year could be very different. It could be the same, could be better, could be worse. But at the end of the day I’m just glad the team put in such a performance because there’s hope for next year.”

While Gasly failed to add to his winning tally in 2021 from a year earlier at Monza, the 25-year-old still enjoyed the season as he was able to battle with the Ferraris and McLarens.
“Obviously we didn’t win this season and there’s nothing quite like that feeling of victory, but I think overall, as a whole season of 22 races, I have to say I enjoyed all 22,” he explained.
“It’s just coming into a race weekend when you know you’re going to be fighting for points, fighting with Ferraris and McLaren, it’s just a different excitement. I have to say I’ve loved it all year and I really hope it will be [again] next year.”
Gasly beat rookie teammate Yuki Tsunoda 110 to 32.
The Japanese improved his form in the second half of the season but it wasn’t enough to overtake Alpine for fifth in the Constructors’ Championship.
Gasly remains confident that Tsunoda will continue to improve in 2022.
“Yeah. Obviously coming in a year isn’t easy for Yuki,” he added. “A couple of bad moments but we knew it before the season. I don’t think we expected it, so close for space being able to fight five. You can always think we lost a few points here and there and could have been better, but at the end of the day he’s in his first season.
“On our side, I think we maximized everything we could. There was a race or two where we lost points due to mistakes, we have to avoid that next year, but I’m sure we have a strong line-up for next season and will give these guys a harder time. “
