Max Verstappen was once the world’s 21st best FIFA player and spent 14 hours gaming during a Formula One weekend last season.
EA Sports’ FIFA series of video games is highly popular among athletes, even beyond football, with plenty of famous faces regularly playing the game casually.

After the race, Horner was asked by Sky Sports to reveal a fact about Verstappen fans might not know, replying: “There’s probably quite a lot you don’t know about Max. He’s probably done about 14 hours of FIFA football this weekend while he’s been here.”
Despite spending much of his race weekend playing video games, Verstappen remained focused when it came to getting in his car.
The Dutch driver claimed victory in Austin after starting the race in pole position and went on to claim his first Drivers’ Championship at the season’s last race in Abu Dhabi in December.

Verstappen’s dedication to playing FIFA should come as no surprise, with the 24-year-old having previously spent time inside the world’s top 50.
According to FIFA database site Futwiz, Verstappen was ranked 31st in the world in 2018, before climbing to 21st the following year, under the gamer tag “crgboy007”.
Although his tag is not currently in the top 200 for the latest installation of the game, Verstappen did comfortably beat McLaren’s Lando Norris during a three-match FIFA series during the 2020 season.
Hey so joked “so that’s a little less FIFA points for me on my laptop” after receiving a fine from the FIA during the 2021 F1 season.
