Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen to lose ‘up to four kilos’ during Singapore Grand Prix | F1 | Sports

Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he is expecting to lose up to four kilos during the Singapore Grand Prix. The race is expected to be one of the toughest of the year, with the extreme climate there meaning that only the fittest drivers will thrive.

Pierre Gasly has already spoken about the ‘extreme conditions’ that drivers are anticipating at the weekend. Temperatures overnight in Singapore are expected to be approximately 30 degrees, with humidity potentially reaching 90%.

The track has not been seen in the last three years due to Covid, and thus all eyes will be on the competition to see who can cope with the extended lap times and heat. Hamilton has experience in Singapore and has revealed to The Korean Englishman that he is expecting to lose a significant amount of weight throughout the race.

Asked about how he prepares for races, Hamilton revealed: “You have to take on a lot of fluids through the week. Particularly like this week, for example, Singapore we lose up to four kilos in the race. It’s hardcore.

The Dutchman will be preparing for a tough evening in Singapore, though it feels more realistic that the championship will instead be won in Japan next week. Ferrari star Carlos Sainz has revealed that he is preparing for the upcoming race by training in the sauna, to both acclimate to the heat and also to maximize his workouts.

The Spaniard shared a video of him working on a training bike inside a sauna, with the caption: “Extreme situations call for extreme measures… getting ready for Singapore!” The Ferrari has been vocal about how he feels Singapore is going to be the toughest race on the calendar due to the climate in the country, he sits just 19 points above Hamilton in the standings.
