Ferrari’s arguments against the budget cap were well heard throughout the grid. Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto and Christian Horner weren’t too happy about the incident at turn one in Hungary. Both teams had badly damaged cars returned to the pits through no fault of their drivers.

Binotto also shared his thoughts on new rules for the budget cap, where the person who caused the incident pays for the damage done to the other team.

Mattia’s opinions were ignored, but the team boss had a lot more to say. He opened the debate on the car’s engines. Binotto has many solutions to the problem at hand but knows it is in vain. He thinks they can use Leclerc’s engine for a few more races, but the problem is that it wasn’t new.

The FIA only allows teams to change their chassis three times a season. Another engine change would mean a decrease in the starting position for Leclerc. Mattia expresses his concern: “When you replace it, you are adding something new, not something with the same mileage and lifespan. So it’s complicated. “

Leclerc damaged his second engine after the collision with Bottas. The engineer is already worried about the future: “There is talk of a further reduction from three to two engines in 2025” [per season]and it is clear that the fewer engines there are, the more important the issue is. “

Binotto is not ready to withdraw, however, and is ready to do whatever it takes to find room in the tight restrictions. “We will be discussing with all the other teams and with the FIA, because this is certainly a topical issue that has been raised from various quarters and therefore deserves to be investigated. But I don’t think there is an easy solution. “

Ferrari upgrades in the future

Problems aside, Binotto revealed a significant boost for the Ferrari chassis for the second half of the season. However, it is uncertain when the new PU will be introduced.

Before the break, Binotto revealed: “We will bring an engine development with us. To clarify the regulations for 2021, you may have a brand new engine in 2021. That means that you can bring in an update in all components of the engine – combustion engine, turbo, MGU-H, batteries, MGU-K etc. ”

Currently third in the championship, the team is doing everything it can to gain the upper hand. Leaving components in order at the start of the season and upgrading later is a smart move by the team.

Will Binotto’s master plan ever work out or will it be able to exceed the regulations?
