At the beginning of the year, Alpine took the first Formula 1 victory in its young history through Esteban Ocon in Hungary, but did not interfere with the podium positions anywhere else. CEO Laurent Rossi wants this to change by 2024 after starting a 100-race project …

The Renault Group has renamed its F1 operation to Alpine for this season, revised the paintwork and withdrew the two-time world champion Fernando Alonso for a third outing at Enstone, who drives alongside Esteban Ocon.

They currently occupy fifth place in the constructors’ championship, more than 100 points behind Ferrari but 19 ahead of closest rival AlphaTauri. Aside from Ocon’s win, however, they only secured one more top-five finish (Alonso’s fourth in Hungary too).

Don’t panic, however, with Rossi having the backing of the board – including Renault CEO Luca de Meo – that Alpine will be here for the foreseeable future to write a long new chapter in Formula 1.

Alpine sits between Ferrari and AlphaTauri in the overall standings

“We have a long-term project, the goal is to achieve a level of competitiveness that will get us on the podium as often as possible in 2024,” Rossi told F1.com. “Starting today in fifth place, you can easily find a roadmap. It gets a little better every year. It’s a 100-race project, four years, four seasons.

“We have to make progress with every race. It could be progress you see down the line, or progress you don’t see, all the little details. The idea is never to stop – and see that we are going in the right direction. Next year it will be a year of coin tossing.

“All we want is for us to have a satisfactory performance at the start so that we’re not too far off the lead. And then we can continue our ascent to the summit. “

Renault boss Luca de Meo supports Rossi’s vision and Alpine growth in Formula 1

De Meo reaffirmed Alpine’s long-term vision in F1 as it will promote their electric sports car, which in turn will fund racing activities.

“We’re here to stay, we’re here to improve every year,” he said. “We are here with ambition. Alpine is one of the largest manufacturers in the world. The story is that Alpine will have a long-term commitment. “

He added, “We plan to transform Alpine into the electric car sports arena. We develop the product. The idea is to build a business around the racing activities that gives the racing activity a duration so that the company can then finance the operation. It will be a system that closes itself. Our performance here [in F1] will give substance to the whole story. “
