For many, especially Italians, one of the most popular dreams is to get a job at Scuderia Ferrari. Imagine how fascinating it would be to work with one of the best groups of people who play a vital role not only in the functioning of road vehicles but also in the teams in Formula 1 and other series.

Hence, in general, one might think that such Ferrari-related people would be better off owning a Ferrari street car at a discounted price. Well here is the painful truth – they don’t. In addition, Ferrari follows a rather strange rule which states that none of the employees are free to buy even one of their cars.
Why could you ask? Well, as we all know, the Italian auto company usually only puts a limited number of road vehicles on the market each year. Therefore, they have the strict rule of prioritizing customers over employees.

What did the Ferrari boss say?
In an interview with The Drive, Enrico Galliera, Ferrari’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, explained the rule prohibiting their own employees from owning a Ferrari car.
“The philosophy is that with production so limited and customers waiting so long for their car, it is not nice when the car is delivered to the employees. It’s the customers first, ”he said.

The rule is pretty harsh for employees, although it is reasonable enough. Imagine working in a Ferrari factory and just watching the cars roll out every day but not owning any. Ouch indeed!
Exception for F1 drivers?
Drivers like Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are basically Ferrari employees too. So does this strict rule also apply to the duo? The answer is no.
Interestingly, there is one exception with Formula 1 drivers, who persistently carry the spotlight from fans and the media, more like people with a public eye.

It would be pretty embarrassing to see a Ferrari racer driving around in a Mercedes or a Honda, wouldn’t it? Hence, the company allows its drivers to own a Ferrari road car but without full price discounts.
Of course, not all employees, master engineers and technicians work in Maranello just to own a Ferrari car; There could be a bigger reason. But do you think it is fair to forbid them to even be interested in buying a Ferrari?
