“He was on it the whole weekend" - Carlos Sainz praises former McLaren teammate Lando Norris for Imola podium

“He was there all weekend” – Ferrari F1 driver Carlos Sainz praised his former McLaren team-mate Lando Norris for a brilliant weekend in Imola.

Lando Norris had a roller coaster ride at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with ups and downs alike. The McLaren star did an excellent job on his final lap in qualifying, except that the lap was canceled due to track restrictions being violated.

This meant he started race P7 instead, rather than row 2. However, the Brit was in the full mood to make an impact. This fantastic performance was crowned by overtaking Charles Leclerc at the restart of the race to achieve the second podium of his F1 career. This certainly impressed his former team-mate at McLaren Carlos Sainz, who also congratulated him right after the race.

“It looked like Lando had made very good use of the car’s potential this weekend. He was there all weekend, especially from Saturday, and he did a good race.

“It’s very close (the battle with McLaren). Maybe they had a little bit of the upper hand this weekend or they had a little bit of the upper hand the last two weekends. But as soon as we have a very good weekend and go on a track that might benefit us a little, I think we can be up front.

“I think the McLaren has its strengths and weaknesses. What makes it a really nice fight is that we are fast in very different places on the track and it will be a very fun fight.”
