Mercedes driver Maximilian Götz stayed in the lead when the last DTM test before the 2021 season came to an end on Thursday at the Lausitzring.
Red Bull-backed Liam Lawson set the early pace on day three of the Lausitzring test after the track had dried out for a smooth tire run and led the times with a lap of 1: 43.740 seconds in the Ferrari 488 GT3 No. 30 .
Haupt Racing Team’s Gotz then managed to shave three-tenths of Lawson’s benchmark to be the fastest before GetSpeed rival Arjun Maini set the fastest lap of the week to date – 1: 43.118 seconds – to take command in the morning .
But Götz managed to break the 1:43 mark in the afternoon and despite a final breath attempt by Lawson with only 10 minutes left in the session, his time of 1: 42.744 seconds remained unbeaten at the end of the day.
Alex Albon made it into the top three with a time of 1: 43.070 seconds in a Ferrari with AlphaTauri liver on two drivers supported by Red Bull, with Philip Ellis in the Winward Mercedes in fourth place just 0.038 seconds behind the Thai driver.
Former Formula 2 driver Maini finished fifth on the last agenda, displacing five-time DTM winner Lucas Auer (Winward Mercedes) and Vincent Abril’s second HRT Mercedes-AMG GT3.
DTM returnees Daniel Juncadella finished eighth in the table, while Kelvin van der Linde was good enough for ninth place in the morning with 1: 43.552 minutes.
Van der Linde Abt Audi team mate Sophia Floersch completed the top 10, while Dev Gore prepared the timesheets for Team Rosberg Audi.
The DTM once again held a separate 20-minute session to conclude the BoP for the start of its GT3 era. At least two cars from each manufacturer had to complete a low fuel consumption run to simulate qualifying.
Albon drove the distance in 1: 42.904 seconds to finish the BoP run the fastest and beat Götz, team-mate Lawson and the top Audi runner van der Linde.
Only 11 drivers took part on the last day of the test, as Mercedes teams Gary Paffett, Audi driver Nico Muller and Walkenhorst and Rowe Racing BMW competed against each other in other championships.
The Lamborghini squad J3 Motorsport and the McLaren-affiliated JP Motorsport team, which this year is only running a partial campaign in the DTM with ex-F1 driver Christian Klien, skipped the entire three-day test.
