GP Turkey 2021: Why isn't Mattia Binotto with Ferrari F1 in Istanbul Park?

In the midst of a close battle in midfield with McLaren, Ferrari is driven for P3 in the championship race. The Turkey GP promises a lot of action and battles, things Ferrari’s Mattia Binotto is about to miss. The team boss will sit out at the Turkish GP and be busy with a little more perspective.

Instead of flying to Istanbul, Mattia Binotto will spend his weekend in Maranello and use the time to focus on developing the car in 2022. Looking ahead, Binotto is ready to step up the Ferrari machine in 2022.

Binotto did not reveal much about the car, but simply called the car further developed. “2022 is moving forward, and that’s the time when you usually freeze the chassis geometries and the whole concept of the car, the suspension layout and the cooling layout, so let’s say the concept is certainly very advanced.”

The beast is preparing for the coming season; Binotto highlighted all of the work that needs to be done by the team. “While the concept is frozen, the chassis is in production. It’s time we kept working on the body shape, aerodynamics, wings, body, etc and no doubt we are working a lot on the propulsion unit. The unit will be completely new in concept and design next year … “

The team recently completed an engine upgrade for the weekend; with the 2022 car in the works, the Italian factory was certainly busy!

New Ferrari PU for Sainz at the Turkish GP

Binotto had clearly stated that Ferrari’s current focus is on scoring points on the board. “It will be important for us to take the most important step we can have as we know that this is somehow the ultimate performance gap on the unit.”

A step in this direction, Sainz will take his fourth PU of the season; so starting at the back of the grille. After a successful upgrade to Leclerc’s PU in Sochi, the team hopes to repeat the results in the Spaniard’s car.

Ferrari explained: “As with Charles Leclerc in Russia, Carlos Sainz in Turkey will be driving a completely new engine with the new hybrid system. So he will start from the end of the field to climb up in order and try to score some points. “

The team wants to return to the master team that it once was. On the way to the Turkish GP, the gap between the Prancing Horses and their rivals is 17.5. The team would have to be consistently ahead of McLaren to take their place in the game in time for Abu Dhabi.
