Pierre Gasly enjoyed one of his best Fridays as a Formula 1 driver after finishing both training sessions in Imola in the top five.
AlphaTauri made an impressive turn during Friday practice for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Gasly was third fastest overall in FP2, just a tenth behind the pacemaker Valtteri Bottas.
Thinking about his running day in Imola, Gasly said, “I think it was one of our best Fridays, P5 this morning, P3 this afternoon, so close to the top guys, it was a really good day for us, I really felt I was good in the car from the first lap. I’ve managed to push pretty hard to drive the way I want and I think we look pretty good. “
Although Gasly is so close to the Mercedes couple in both training sessions, he keeps an eye on Ferrari, McLaren and Alpine and not the reigning world champion.
“I think we have to stay pretty calm and focus on our goal. After Yuki Tsunoda had a problem with the engine in the first RP, he experienced a positive second session and finished the day in seventh place.
