Ferrari’s aggregate upgrade will arrive in “two or three” races · RaceFans

Carlos Sainz Jnr, Ferrari, Spa-Francorchamps, 2021

Ferrari’s engine upgrade will not be ready for another two or three races, team boss Mattia Binotto has admitted.

Binotto announced earlier this month that Ferrari would bring an update to its engine in the second half of the season. But he confirmed today that this may not appear until after two of the most challenging tracks for power units – Spa, which will host the race this weekend, and their home race at Monza in two weeks.

“When [it arrives] is not yet decided, “said Binotto to Sky. “We’ll put it to the test and complete the homologation. We know it will come before the end of the season. “

Binotto said timing the update before the end of the season is a major concern. “For us, it was also important with a view to 2022, because experience has shown that whatever brings upgrades will be useful for the next year.

“That’s how it will be at the end of the season. It’s not coming that fast. It’s not for the next two or three races, but certainly a significant upgrade on the hybrid side, us [will be] a new technology for us for the future. “

The team expects the upgrade to be a “significant step”. But while Ferrari’s straight-line speed has been a weakness since early last year, Binotto says the team needs to grow in other areas besides its aggregate.

“We have always emphasized that it is important for us to improve in all areas. Not only in terms of the car, but also in terms of track management, racing strategy, pit stops.

“We can only get better in the future if we improve in all areas. And I think the results – in terms of track results, in terms of constructors’ championship – are the result of trying and trying to really improve. “
